Dremel

No professional tool chest or home workshop is complete with that handy, multifunctional tool known as a Dremel.

If you don't own a Dremel, you have probably at least heard of them since Dremels are probably the best known of any portable hand held rotary power tool in the world today.
But, in case you aren't familiar with what a Dremel actually is as well as what it does, here you are:

What is a Dremel?

Dremel is an internationally acclaimed brand of power tools best known for its rotary tools. The inventor of the Dremel, Albert J. Dremel, founded the Dremel company in 1932 in Racine, Wisconsin. Bosch acquired the Dremel company in 1993 and it is now a member of the illustrious Robert Bosch Tool Corporation---a giant in the industry. Although primarily known for rotary tools, Dremel also makes non-rotary tools such as:

•    Hot Glue Guns
•    Scroll Saws
•    Contour Sanders
•    Powered Screwdrivers
•    Versatips

The bit of a Dremel Moto-Tool is held in a collet and rotates at speeds ranging from 3,000 all the way up to 37,000 RPM. Instead of torque, a Dremel uses speed to get the job done. By using a bit appropriate to the application, there are a number of functions for a Dremel, including:

•    Drilling
•    Grinding
•    Cutting
•    Cleaning
•    Sharpening
•    Sanding
•    Polishing
•    Carving
•    Engraving
•    Routing

You can even use a special cordless pumpkin carving carve tool for carving your  Halloween pumpkin with a Dremel! Or, there is a special golf ball cleaning Dremel tool and a pet nail grooming tool; both cordless. In 2008, after the patent finally ran out on the Fein's Multimaster, Dremel introduced its own version of an oscillating tool called the Multi-Max.

Dremel rotary tools are tough and powerful enough to take on very hard, rigid materials such as wood, stone, bone, glass, plastic and metal. A Dremel makes cuts by using small wheel attachments that make curved or long lines. The wheel attachments work much the same as tiny power saws. You can purchase these Dremel attachments in a wide variety of sizes and hardness levels.

As for carving, a Dremel is ideal for making three dimensional cuts. Engraving is yet  another popular and much used function of a Dremel. Many craftsman like to engrave their expensive tools!

You can find a large selection of Dremel tools and accessories within these pages, so get started using one of the world's favorite small multi-task tools!
