More about Unimig Welding Wire

Providing the filler material that forms the joint, welding wire is an essential component of the welding process.

As opposed to soldering and brazing where the state of the base metal does not change, welding actually melts the parent metal. A pool of additional molten material is then added to form the joint. This weld pool is supplied by welding wire and, depending on the type of weld, it can be stronger than the base material.

Unimig Welding Wire

MIG welding uses a continuous wire feed as an electrode to provide the weld pool. The filler metal melts to join the parent metals, due to the heat from the arc across it. Reels of MIG wire are available in various wire gauges and materials:

Stainless steel welding wire contains high levels of silicon to improve arc characteristics and weld pool fluidity.

Gasless welding wire, for use with gasless MIG welders, contains a flux core that provides the shielding to protect the melted metals from contamination or oxidisation.

Aluminium welding wire is supplied in reels of various gauges for use with MIG welding or, more commonly, TIG welding when aluminium is the material being joined.

Silicone bronze welding wire is more expensive than regular mild steel wire, but requires less heat input and shrinks less so it is used for working with copper and alloys. The resulting weld also accepts paint and coatings well, providing a better finish to the welding task where looks are important.

Welding Rods

Electrodes, or ARC welding rods, are graded to assist with selection for their precise purpose.

GetToolsDirect carry a range of tungsten electrodes, including Zirconiated, Ceriated and Tungsten-Purple, or E3, electrodes.

Balled, pointed, and truncated electrodes are available for specific purposes, with flat electrodes that are able to produce a good weld on metal that is rusty, oily, dirty or galvanized.

GetToolsDirect has the welding wire you require, online, with fast delivery when and where you need it.
