About Welding

Welding is a process that joins materials such as metals or thermoplastics. Although welding has been around for a long time, until the end of the 19th century, the only welding process was forge welding, used by blacksmiths for hundreds of years to join steel and iron by heating and hammering. The first thing that comes to mind when we think of these old time blacksmiths is shoeing horses, but blacksmiths actually served many other important functions that relied on welding.

Today, there are 3 main types of welding:

  1. Tig Welding
  2. Stick or Arc Welding
  3. Mig Welding

Tig welding In general, you might say that it is best used for stainless steels, nickel alloys, aluminum, magnesium, titanium, cobalt, and copper alloys. Tig welding can be a slow process. Tig is basically the most versatile of the welding processes since it can be used with such a wide variety of metals.

Stick, or arc welding as it is sometimes called, is still very much in use these days. It is considered to be the welding method of choice in many outdoor applications because rain or wind won't affect the welding process, nor do you have to be as concerned about the metal you are welding being extra clean.

Mig welding is widely considered to be the best for fabrication of steel due to its speed and the fact that you can tack weld with only one hand.

You will find within these pages great selection of these welders and the one you choose to purchase should depend on the application you plan to use it on. We carry high quality, name brands such as Unimig and Cigweld welders.

In addition, there is a good selection of the welding accessories you might need such as:

  • Welding Helmets
  • Welding Gloves
  • Welding Leads
  • Magnetic Welding Clamps
  • Welding Regulators\
  • And More
